The Crowd
I see the town again, festive and in a frenzy
Suffocating beneath the sun and with joy.
And amid the music I hear the shouts, the laughter
Which explode and reverberate around me

And lost among these people that jostle me
Dazed, confused, I stay where I am.
When suddenly I turn around, he moves back
And the crowd happens to throw me into his arms

Carried by the crowd that drags us along
Carries us away
Crushed one against the other
We form only one single body

And the stream effortlessly
Pushes us, chained one to the other
And leaves both of us
Beaming, exhilarated and happy

Carried away by the crowd that surges forward
And that dances
A mad farandole
Our two hands remain joined

And sometimes lifted up
Our two intertwined bodies soar
And both come down
Beaming, exhilarated and happy

And the joy radiated (lit: splashed) by his smile
Goes through me and flows deep inside me.
But suddenly I let out a shout among the laughter
When the crowd happens to tear him from between my arms

Carried by the crowd that drags us along
Carries us away
Move us away, one from the other.
I fight and I struggle

But the sound of his voice
Is muffled in the laughter of the others.
And I shout with distress, fury and rage
And I cry

Carried away by the crowd that surges forward
And that dances
A mad farandole
I am carried far away

And I clench my fists
Cursing the crowd that robs me
Of the man that it had given me
And that I never found again
